Misua Soup with Sardines

Fast and easy misua soup recipe with sardines and chayote squash. A dish with a Filipino touch.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pack misua noodles
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped or diced
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 piece chayote squash, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 5 cups hot water
  • 1 small can sardines in tomato sauce (your favorite sardines)
  • 3 cubes bouillon (chicken and beef, adjust to taste)

Instructions

  • Preheat a pan over medium-high heat.
  • Melt the butter and saute the chopped onion for about 3 minutes until fragrant and slightly translucent.
  • Add the minced garlic and saute for another 1–2 minutes.
  • Toss in the chayote slices and continue sauteing for 3 minutes to slightly soften them.
  • Pour in the hot water, then add the misua noodles, sardines (including the sauce), and bouillon cubes. Stir gently to combine.
  • Cover the pan and let the soup cook for 5–10 minutes, or until the chayote is tender and the misua is fully cooked.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Serve hot. It is delicious on its own or paired with rice or warm bread.
