Easy mouthwatering homemade cheesesteak sub you can make at home.
Course: dinner, lunch, Snack
Cuisine: American
Keyword: beef bun, beef sandwich, beef strips, philly cheesesteak
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef strips
  • 2 pcs sourdough hoagie buns
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small yellow sweet pepper, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Mozzarella or provolone cheese (as needed)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Prepare the peppers and onions: In a nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions, green and orange bell peppers. Saute until they turn golden and soft, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer the cooked vegetables to a covered bowl and set aside in the microwave to keep warm.
  • Cook the beef: In the same skillet, add the beef strips. Stir-fry over medium-high heat until browned but still tender, around 4-5 minutes. Avoid overcooking. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Assemble the sub: Lower the heat and arrange shredded cheese or slices over the cooked beef in the skillet. Allow them to melt slightly. Scoop the cheesy beef onto the hoagie buns. Top with the sautéed peppers and onions.
  • Serve: Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Tips:
If you want, you can lightly toast the hoagie buns with a bit of butter before assembling.
Use your choice of cheese: provolone gives a classic taste, while mozzarella provides a creamier texture.
